Jelly Roll Race quilt with triangles

I had made a jelly roll race quilt the traditional way with 45 degree angles joining the strips.  I wanted to do something different.  I was shopping for a jelly roll when I mentioned that thought to the quilt store clerk.  She said she just saw an idea she thought was clever.  She showed me the magazine with a picture of a quilt that used triangles to connect the strips.  I thought to myself, "I can do this."  So I did it.  The triangles are a light shade of tan, not white as it looks in the photo.  The jelly roll was made up of supposedly Christmas fabrics, but I took out several strips that said Merry Christmas and I think it will be a year round sofa quilt.

English Paper Piecing Hexagon basket of flowers

I started making Hexagaons after my hip replacement of my hip replacement surgery while I was not very mobile.  I finished it up when my husband had a knee replacement and I was confined to the hospital and then to home for awhile.  Still need to find a border and backing then quilt it.

Wicked Fairy Costume for my granddaughter Halloween 2016

My Granddaughter wanted to be a mean fairy for Halloween, so I made a tule tutu and added a leaf overlay to it in shades of blues and purples.  It turned out tutu cute!

Jelly roll race quilt with triangles

In January we headed south to get out of the cold Iowa winter for a spell.  I took my sewing machine and a Moda jelly roll along with several other pieces of fabric I had picked up with an eye for a possible border or two.

Quilts of Valor

Mississippi Valley Quilt Guild has a very active Quilts of Valor group.
They meet once a month and sew beautiful quilts to give to veterans.
Today I joined them from 9-2 and made 12 blocks as well as a pillow case.

This was a fun block that starts with a 10 inch square.  You sew around the outside then make specific cuts to end up with 4 half triangles 4 arrowed strips and 2 smaller squares already
sewn down the middle with which to make your 4 square for the middle.

Hexi's

I am putting together a kit of fabrics so that I can make hexi's while recovering from hip surgery.
I am going through my fabric stash and pulling smaller pieces.  The ones below were made from a strip that was a little larger than 2 1/2 inches.  My hexi's are 1 inch along each side.

These are good because I won't need to be at a cutting table or ironing board.  I also won't have to sit up to a sewing machine since I make them by hand.  The above ones are basted but not sewn together yet as I am not sure how I want to put it together.  If I make enough I will do a Grandmother's flower garden quilt.  If not, I will use them as applique flowers on another quilt.

I used plastic reusable forms to get the shape.
